If the proposed City budget is approved as it stands, many senior programs and services at the Long Beach Senior Center will not be available after October 1, 2012.

Almost 50% ofthe Senior Center staff will be out. If this Concerns you, you Can make your voice heard:

Council Chambers, First floor, 333 Ocean Blvd

  • Attend Community Budget Meetings 

This will affect the following programs and services at the Long Beach Senior Center.

Programs & Services; Budget Cut Effects

  1. Information & Assistance – Staff ELIMINATED and Program Reduced by 90%
  2. Special Events – Staff and Events ELIMINATED
  3. Trips – Staff and Staff-led trips ELIMINATED 
  4. Seminars – Staff ELIMINATED and program reduced by 60%
  5. Screenings – Staff ELIMINATED and program reduced by 30%
  6. Crafts with Kim – Staff and program ELIMINATED
  7. Computer Classes for Seniors – Fee DOUBLED as contract classes and opened to 18 years over and no money to replace/repair equipment
  8. Body Works Classes – ELIMINATED or $2/meeting
  9. AF Exercise Classes – ELIMINATED or $2/meeting
  10. Fitness Room – Staff ELIMINATED and Monitored by volunteers only and no money to replace/repair equipment
  11. Other Classes – Volunteer-left, contract fee-based or ELIMINATED
  12. Daytime Custodial – Staff ELIMINATED
  13. Evening Activities/Meetings – ELIMINATED except for contract classes
  14. Saturday Activities/Meetings – ELIMINATED except for contract classes/rentals and OC Food Bank
  15. Newsletter & Fliers – ELIMINATED
