Sacramento Business Journal: Report says California governments don’t reveal full spending

California’s governments spend more money than we think, according to a new report released this week.

The California Public Policy Center, a right-leaning nonprofit think tank, found that state and local governments spend a combined $365 billion in the fiscal year ending in 2011 — about 19 percent of the gross state product. The study also calculated that the state’s combined government debt load is $848 billion, including $611 billion held by local governments.
