LAAAC receives CEMHAC’s Older Adult Advocate of the Year Award

The Los Angeles Aging Advocacy Coalition (LAAAC) is the recipient of the 2013 CEMHAC Older Adult Advocate of the Year Award. LAAAC was selected to receive this major award for its exceptional efforts to preserve protect and strengthen quality of services for thousands of older adults, their family, and caregivers in Los Angeles County. 

The honor was bestowed November 20, 2013 at the reception hosted by CEMHAC at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, LAX, during the C4A Conference in Los Angeles. Representing LAAAC, co-founder partners, Rigo Saborio, MSG, President and CEO of St. Barnabas Senior Services, LAAAC -Chair; Dr. Marie Torres, Senior Vice President of Government Relations at AltaMed, LAAAC; and June Simmons, MSW, President  & CEO of Partners in Care Foundation were at hand to receive the award. 

Created in 2010, The CEMHAC Older Adult Advocate of the Year Award honors organizations or individuals who provide extraordinary advocacy on behalf of older adults in California. “We congratulate LAAC for its unique brand of advocacy and effective efforts to advance issues affecting vulnerable older adults in Los Angeles and California ”said Viviana Criado, Executive Director of the CEMHAC.     

Also in attendance at the award ceremony was general manager of the City of Los Angeles’ Department of Aging, Laura Trejo, who shared a few words applauding LAAAC for its advocacy efforts, “The leadership of LAAAC helped bring the aging network together locally.  Their efforts have been so successful that state and national organizations have begun to take notice.  We applaud LAAAC for its steadfast efforts to protect and support senior services.”
