MedPage Today: SGR Repeal Cost Now Pegged at $121 Billion

WASHINGTON — The most recent congressional proposal to repeal Medicare’s sustainable growth rate (SGR) payment formula would cost $121.1 billion over 10 years if enacted, the Congressional Budget Office said Friday.

The cost of the House Ways and Means Committee’s SGR-repeal bill is about $5 billion higher than that of one approved by a separate committee — the House Energy and Commerce Committee — last summer. The tab for that bill came in at $116.5 billion.

The Ways and Means Committee passed its SGR-repeal bill last month, the same day as the Senate Finance Committee.
