Modern Healthcare: Urban Institute: More uninsured went into Medicaid under ACA

It may not be a big revelation to discover there are now fewer uninsured Americans, thanks to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. However, researchers at the Urban Institute Health Policy Center expect many will be surprised to learn that it appears many of those who lacked coverage went into Medicaid instead of a private plan.

“Everybody was so focused on the exchanges, and whether they were functioning, that I think the Medicaid piece dropped off the radar,” said Lisa Clemans-Cope, a senior research associate and health economist with the Urban Institute.
