CDCAN: IHSS OVERTIME STAKEHOLDER MEETINGS BY DEPT OF SOCIAL SERVICES SET FOR JULY 28, 29 & AUG 11TH

SACRAMENTO, CA (CDCAN LAST UPDATED 07/23/2014 – 06:37 AM) – The Department of Social Services, the state agency that oversees statewide the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program that serves over 460,000 children and adults with disabilities, mental health needs, the blind and seniors, is convening three public stakeholder meetings at the Department of Social Services building in Sacramento on July 28th, 29th  and August 11th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM covering how the State will implement overtime for IHSS workers.
A toll free line will be available for all three meetings for interested persons to use if they cannot attend the physical meetings in Sacramento (Note: that number is not yet posted – but will be posted on the Department of Social Services website soon – CDCAN will send out number as soon as it is available)
The new federal regulations by the US Department of Labor requiring overtime pay for IHSS and other home care workers, including Supported Living Services workers funded through the 21 non-profit regional centers, is scheduled to take effect January 1, 2015.
The Department of Social Services says the purpose of the three stakeholder meetings is to “…solicit stakeholder input and continue the discussion of issues” related to the new federal overtime regulations and the budget related legislation to implement those regulations in California.  That budget related legislation, SB 855 – called a budget “trailer” bill because it follows or trails the main budget bill, was passed by the Legislature and signed into law by Governor Brown in June.
The recently enacted 2014-2015 State Budget funds overtime for IHSS, and also for some other home care related services such as Supported Living Services, though the funding in the case of IHSS workers has specific and complicated requirements.
