NSCLC: Understanding the Duals Special Needs Plan Policy

From our colleagues at NSCLC:

The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) recently released a new Duals Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) policy impacting beneficiaries residing in counties implementing the Coordinated Care Initiative (CCI). The new policy is complicated and affects beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans differently than beneficiaries in fee-for-service Medicare.

The National Senior Citizens Law Center has developed county-specific fact sheets that summarize the D-SNP policy and outline for advocates how beneficiaries are impacted depending on the type of Medicare Advantage plan in which a beneficiary is enrolled.

Los Angeles County
Riverside County
San Bernardino County
San Diego County
San Mateo County
Santa Clara County

Note:  the current D-SNP policy does not apply to beneficiaries residing in Alameda and Orange Counties, both of which are implementing the CCI no sooner than July 2015.

Please visit our website for additional resources on the CCI.
