New Directions for Policy and Research on Reverse Mortgages

As members of the baby boomer generation enter retirement, they will need better financial tools for dealing with the asset drawdown phase of their lives. Currently, policymakers are looking at ways to promote annuities and government bonds to reduce the risk that older people will outlive their 401(k)s and other retirement savings. Less attention has focused on how elders should manage their other important retirement nest egg—home equity.
